- Keep the hook sharp
Colorful jigs may work well when visibility is low in the water, but a person will not catch a walleye if their hook is not sharp enough. It is a known fact that jigs will work long after all that colorful and flashy paint wears off as long as a hook is sharp enough. - Choose the correct shank

Many anglers believe that the lighter the jig, the more walleyes they will catch. However, there are certain fishing situations where heavier jigs work much better when it comes to catching walleyes.
- Delay reaction time
Most anglers will grab their line as soon as they feel or see the smallest of nibbles. While that will work most of the time, there are some days when delaying that reaction for just a second or two can result in the walleye staying on the hook.
